Joyce Cheng says mum Lydia always in her heart on birthday
Joyce Cheng Yan-yee didn't sweep the grave of her mother Lydia 'Fei Fei' Sum Tin-ha (also known as Lydia Shum) on Monday, the late comedienne's birthday. Instead, she attended a press event to promote an exhibition of 400 butterfly specimens at Plaza Hollywood. Cheng said she had her own way of remembering her mother, who died of liver cancer in 2008.
'I don't always have to say it out loud or do something in particular on these special days,' the 23-year-old television actress said. 'My mum is always in my heart and I'm sure she's well aware of that.'
Cheng seemed cheerful at the Diamond Hill mall's event. She even designed a straw hat with butterfly embellishments to commemorate the exhibition, which runs from Saturday until August 1. Cheng said she planned to grieve alone.
'I want to go home after the event and just spend some quiet time just by myself, remembering her,' Cheng said. 'I recall so many happy memories with my mum, especially on this day.'
