Marine police seized contraband cigarettes worth HK$760,000 on a motorised sampan in Deep Bay in an anti-smuggling operation. Two boats were spotted on radar off Tsim Bei Tsui, but as police closed in, one of the boats headed for Shenzhen. The other boat sped towards Deep Bay and two men abandoned it, swimming ashore and escaping. Officers seized 32 boxes of illicit cigarettes on board the sampan.
