Mercury droplets in canned luncheon meat

The Centre for Food Safety has warned people not to eat Greatwall brand chopped pork and ham after finding a can contained 0.4 grams of liquid mercury droplets. The centre received a complaint that a 340 gram can with an expiry date of January 17, 2013, contained silvery droplets. A check of another 13 samples of 48,000 cans imported by Yuen Tai Trading Company did not reveal any mercury droplets. However, the distributing agent agreed to recall the relevant batch of luncheon meat. A spokesman for the centre said it was unlikely that mercury droplets would have any significant health impact. Consumers should call the company on 2549 0016 if anyone finds foreign matter in its products.
