Top party official's wife beaten up

The wife of a senior Hubei party official was beaten and severely injured by six plain-clothes policemen - who thought she was a petitioner - outside the provincial party compound in Wuhan on June 23, The Southern Metropolis News reports. The 58-year-old woman was beaten before being bundled, unconscious, into a car and sent to the Complaints Office. She was not rescued until she called her husband, of the provincial politics and law committee.
