Cricket game set to be a big hit among fans

International Cricket 2010

Cricket fans are always complaining that the computer gaming industry does not make enough games for them.

But, fear not, for International Cricket 2010 has just been released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The game's graphics makes gameplay very realistic.

In addition, the designers Codemasters and Trickstar Games have enlisted commentators such as Australian great Shane Warne, West Indian Ian Bishop and Englishman David Lloyd to talk about the way players bat and bowl throughout the match.

Cricket squads from each country represent players from earlier this year although many of their names have been slightly changed because they have not been licensed.

The game also features a tutorial for newbies.

It includes batting and fielding lessons, with detailed accounts of how to play certain shots, how to bowl different deliveries such as outswingers and how to catch the ball when fielding.

One amusing feature allows gamers to change a player's appearance. This can result in a top Indian batsman like Sachin Tendulkar sporting a blue mohawk, if you are a fan of that type of haircut.

In the game, players can choose a range of match formats from Tests and one-day internationals to twenty20 tournaments.

You can decide where the action will take place.

Almost all leading venues from major cricket-playing countries are represented.

Close-up shots give gamers a realistic view of the batting action.

It's also a thrilling sight to see a bowler deliver a 140km/h 'missile'. And it's all the sweeter when you hit such a delivery for a boundary or out of the grounds for a six.

The hawk-eye system is probably the coolest feature in the game. It has been included to show leg before wicket decisions and gives a detailed explanation as to why the batsman was given out or not.

The game also includes all other forms of technology used in real cricket match coverage, for example, the wagon wheel, which shows where a batsman has scored his runs. Naturally, the third umpire has his say in close decisions, too.

As players complete matches, they can unlock rewards and gain skill points. And satisfaction is guaranteed as each level becomes harder. Some of the prizes awaiting gamers are new stadiums and cricket gear like bats or pads.

When cricket games are released, gamers and critics are quick to point out the shortcomings. But for once it seems the designers have thought of everything. International Cricket 2010 is dead on target and allows cricket fans to experience the game in a whole new way.
