Political parties staged protests yesterday against toll rises for the Western Harbour Tunnel taking effect today and proposed fare increases for Kowloon Motor Bus and Long Win Bus services. The Democratic Party and the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong urged the government to take over the tunnel from its operating company. The Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood and the Federation of Trade Unions slammed bus operators for proposing fare increases despite recording big profits last year.
