'Surprise mystery guest ambassador' hardly a surprise
Watchmakers may be good at keeping time, but they're terrible at keeping secrets. We discovered this when Swiss watchmaker Tissot unveiled its new Visodate 1957 Automatic line at the Sugar lounge in Taikoo Shing. On the theme of 'Enchanting Moments', seven models, including current It girl Jessica Cambensy, took the stage decked out in full-body costumes that were supposed to reflect not only the mood and style of each watch, but also a characteristic of - in the emcee's words - the 'surprise mystery guest ambassador'.
One model was dressed as Superwoman, because both the watch and the secret guest ooze a feeling of justice. Another was dressed as Tomb Raider's Lara Croft, whose adventurous personality personifies the Sea-Touch watch and the mysterious guest's movie roles. Cambensy - or Jessica C, as she prefers to be called - did her best Audrey Hepburn impression. The idea was to represent the elegance and timeless feel of the watch.
After the models were done parading on the stage, the mysterious guest ambassador was revealed - to no one's surprise - as mainland actor Wang Xiaoming (pictured flanked by models Marie Zhuge [left] and Cambensy). Someone should explain to the event organisers that if they are going to invite a surprise guest, they shouldn't put his mug on the first page of the press kit handed out before the event.
