Ekin Cheng fits bill in eco-friendly role

If any local celebrity qualifies to be the spokesman for an eco-friendly hair product, Ekin Cheng Yee-kin is the man. The long-haired actor, who has been a WWF ocean environment ambassador since 2002, appeared alongside mainland actress Lynn Xiong Dailin on Wednesday at an event organised by WWF and The Body Shop to plug the Rainforest line of hair-care products, ranging from shampoo and conditioner to radiance spray.

During the launch, at Centra's Watermark restaurant, officials from the two organisations explained how half of Hong Kong's waste water came from homes - meaning products used in the household shower would end up in the ocean.

According to The Body Shop, its new hair-care products are biodegradable and contain no silicates, sulphates, parabens or colourants that pollute our waterways.

Cheng thanked the WWF and Body Shop for keeping the sea clean around Hong Kong, while Xiong - who, at 177cm towered over everyone in the room - spoke of the importance of keeping the environment clean while looking good. 'Hair is the second thing you notice about a person after their face,' the actress said. 'It's crucial to keep it clean and healthy.'
