Hakaan

Who started it? London-based designer Hakaan Tildirim was born in Turkey in 1971 and studied at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, in Istanbul. In 1998, Tildirim was awarded the young fashion designer prize by the city's Textile and Apparel Exporter Association. He worked for several Turkish designers before moving to London, where he debuted his collection at London Fashion Week in February. In June, he was awarded the Andam fashion fellowship. His fans include French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld and supermodel Kate Moss. His second collection will be shown at Paris Fashion Week in October.

Why we love it: it's cool, modern and luxe. The autumn/winter collection takes its inspiration from Swiss illustrator H.R. Giger, who specialises in industrial design. Tildirim references architectural forms with clean lines and structured coats, dresses and skirts. Standouts include short wool and cashmere dresses with nipped-in waists designed to mould the body. Trousers are slim, in leather or wool, while skirts are accented with peplums.

What we'd pick: the chic but classic grey coat (far left; HK$16,600). For evening, try the futuristic mini dress with triangular shoulders and peplum (left; HK$16,000), or the sexy pleated mini dress (right; HK$17,700).

Where can you get it? Hakaan is available at Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, Central, tel: 3695 3388.
