Beijing issues warning on Tibetan stability
Police across the mainland have been urged to take the initiative and 'strike first' in the battle against separatist forces in order to maintain stability in Tibetan regions, state media reported yesterday.
'Tibet and Tibetan areas in Sichuan have maintained general stability but the task remains daunting in regard to fighting separatism and maintaining stability,' a meeting on public security in Tibetan-populated areas was told this week, China News Service reported.
A meeting on public security in Tibet, Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu and Yunnan, held in Lhasa on Wednesday and Thursday, pledged to focus on the 'war against separatism' and strengthen crime prevention and control networks in mainland society.
The ability to respond to emergencies would be improved and border checks and controls strengthened.
