Chickens and offal seized in raid on unlicensed cold store
Seven kilograms of chilled poultry offal suspected to have been imported illegally, and 190 chilled chickens with expired 'use by' dates, were seized in a raid by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officers on an unlicensed cold store in Po Lau Road, Sheung Shui. One man was arrested. 'We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health,' a department spokesman said. Two boys seriously injured
Two boys were seriously injured when a delivery van hit them in Wong Tai Sin. The younger boy, aged eight, suffered injuries to his arms and legs, while the older boy, 11, suffered head injuries in the accident, which happened soon after 11.30am in Choi Hung Road near the junction with Tseuk Luk Street. The boys were in serious condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night. The van driver, 53, passed a breath test.
Tenders for Sai Ying Pun site
The Urban Renewal Authority invited 17 property developers to tender for the redevelopment of a site in Sai Ying Pun bordered by Third Street, Yu Lok Lane and Centre Street. About 270 flats will be built on the site, which will produce 16,460 metres of gross floor area, most of it for residential use, and public open space of 1,180 square metres.
18 arrested in anti-triad operation
Police arrested 18 youths and young men aged 14 to 28 for unlawful assembly during an anti-triad operation in North Point. The arrests were made when the gang was found gathering at the junction of Marble Road and Shu Kuk Street at about 10pm on Thursday.
Flu hits Castle Peak Hospital ward
Five men in a ward at Castle Peak Hospital have the flu and have been placed in isolation. Other patients in the ward are being monitored. Ward visits have been limited, admissions suspended and the discharge of patients from the ward restricted. The hospital has stepped up infection control measures.
