Who started it? Anndra Neen was launched last year by sisters Phoebe and Annette Stephens. Born and raised in Mexico City, the sisters attended university in the United States - Phoebe at Wheaton College and Annette at Boston University. After graduation, they moved to New York, where Phoebe became a fashion specialist for Phillips de Pury and Annette pursued a career in theatre.
After a trip to Japan, they started a jewellery line, inspired by their Mexican roots and their jeweller grandmother, whose work was worn by art collector Peggy Guggenheim and painter Frida Kahlo. Anndra Neen has been spotted on celebrities including Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie.
Why we love it: the artisanal pieces border on wearable art, with their organic form and shape, but have a luxe look and feel. The sisters use hammered metals (copper, nickel, brass) with antique finishes to create a contemporary look that is feminine yet fierce. The current collection draws from various ethnic influences and is inspired by antique European jewellery, Egyptian and Bedouin motifs, Japanese design elements and French medieval armour. All the pieces are handmade.
What we'd pick: the cage cuff (right; HK$4,600) made from pewter and gold with a cage overlay. The web choker (left; HK$6,600) is a stylish statement piece.
