Lady in black - singer Denise Ho leaves her dress at home and goes grungy again

It was a busy day last Thursday for the marketing team of local fashion empire IT, plugging two events on the same day.

They launched a collaboration project with Adidas originals and :Chocolate in the afternoon at Adidas' store in Causeway Bay, then rushed to Ice House Street in Central for the official opening of the Ann Demeulemeester store.

While the models donned casual sportswear for the afternoon event, guests for the evening cocktail party were much more dressed up.

In a last-minute change of direction, singer Denise Ho Wan-sze (left) showed up in an androgynous ensemble of all-black blazer with matching skinny pants and biker boots.

The styling team pulled off the change gracefully but Ho's outfit disappointed many of the guests - used to seeing her in grungy rocker outfits - hoping to see her in a dress again. After all, in April, when Ho was wrapped in a strapless evening gown from Dior, she took home the best-dressed-actress prize at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

Ho responded swiftly when asked about the outfit.

'Everyone sees it almost as a miracle every time I wear a dress. I think what really matters is to dress appropriately for different events.'

That's true - what can go wrong with an all-black outfit? At least the other two guests of honour were more adventurous: TVB actress Yoyo Mung Ka-wai and fashion writer Winifred Lai Kin-wai wowed the crowd with red silk pants and a transparent skirt.
