The One comes clean on The One that is 'truly irreplaceable'
Michelle Reis is known as The One to many people. That's thanks to tycoon Joseph Lau Luen-hung, who used to take out full-page ads to celebrate the birthday of the unnamed The One in newspapers. That was after the former beauty queen married shipping heir Julian Hui Chun-hang in 2008.
Once Reis' closest of friends, Lau has even used that mysterious moniker to name his new shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is scheduled to open in October.
But who is The One for Reis, who now enjoys the lifestyle of the city's premier tai-tais, or wives of the super-rich and powerful? The answer will disappoint Lau, and also her hubby.
The One and Only - let's start the drum rolls - was Milky the Pomeranian. Unfortunately, Milky died recently aged 17. 'To be the one means being irreplaceable,' Reis said in a Chinese-language magazine interview. 'Milky is truly irreplaceable.'
Reis was about to board a plane to Nanjing for a business trip when she heard the sad news.
'From the time I got on the plane, I couldn't stop crying. It was like turning on the water tap. Milky was like my natural-born son. Seventeen long years - we shared so many happy moments together.'
As a US politician once said, if you want a friend, get a dog.
