A medical and health officer at Tuen Mun Hospital appeared in Tuen Mun Court yesterday accused of cheating the government out of HK$2.7 million in private tenancy allowances. Yuen Kai-tak, 47, faced five charges of using a document with intent to deceive. He is accused of making false statements in application forms for allowances between July 1990 and July 1998 in relation to a property in Kam Sheung Road, Yuen Long. He will enter pleas at the District Court on September 21. He was granted bail of $10,000 and ordered not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
