Daniel Wu joins Diesel and activists in quirky video ad pushing for clean air in HK

The Clean Air Network, fashion brand Diesel and actor Daniel Wu Yin-cho (pictured) have teamed up to release a quirky video decrying Hong Kong's bad air.

Made in the style of campy infomercials, the 90-second clip sees Wu selling 'Fresh Air' in a can with a breathing mask attached. CAN says its advertising agency recommended trying a sarcastic, funny commercial as opposed to their usual 'dead serious campaigns'.

San Francisco native Wu shot both a Cantonese and English version of the ad, with subtle language changes. 'The ability to yodel' in the English version becomes 'the ability to blow water', a Cantonese term for chit-chat. A 'manly smell' in the Cantonese version oddly becomes 'the smell of a horse'.

CAN chief executive Joanne Ooi praised Wu for volunteering his services. 'He was shooting a movie and came as soon as he had an day off,' she said. 'It was a wonderful shoot and the commercials have had such a great response.' It's being shown at Diesel stores and in cinema lobbies.
