The winners of Young Post's Summer Visions competition went to Macau on August 21 to go behind the scenes of ZAIA, one of Cirque du Soleil's shows at the Venetian.

After making the journey to Macau by ferry, the lucky participants were welcomed by the ZAIA crew. Backstage the winners rubbed shoulders with the show's impressively fit-looking performers from around the world who spoke an eclectic mix of languages.

The ZAIA crew had prepared a make-up workshop for our Young Post crew. Kaleen McKeeman, who plays Zaia, the main character of the show, and her many co-stars, such as Benji the clown, have to put on their own make-up every day before they go on stage. It's circus make-up, so it's serious work.

That Saturday, they taught the group how to do it. Applying the make-up on their own faces, our winners saw themselves change minute by minute into a ZAIA character.

After the workshop, it was time to show off their handy work, so they took their painted faces to lunch at one of the restaurants in the Venetian and gave the passers-by something to marvel at.

Next it was show time, with the day's ZAIA performance kicking off at 5pm. With seats in the front section of the theatre, the Young Post crew enjoyed a VIP experience, as well as a moment of fame when Benji the clown pointed out their expertly made-up faces to the whole theatre!

The group saw the performers they had met backstage just hours earlier working their magic among the elaborate decorations of the stage.

Sadly, all good things come to an end, and with the show all over in an hour and a half, it was time for our competition winners to call it a day, sailing home with a head full of happy memories.

We had so many entries but only 10 winning places for the Summer Visions competition, so it took a lot of time, discussion and heartache to reach a decision. Our choices were driven by the look and idea behind each artwork.

Congratulations to all the participants - you should be very proud of yourselves!
