Wake up to riches with Sleep Well
An estimated dividend of HK$4 million in the Happy Valley Triple Trio is sure to entice plenty of punters into dabbling in the lucrative bet type tomorrow night, and many will be basing their hopes on last-start winner Sleep Well as a banker in the final leg.
Sleep Well decimated his Class Five opposition over the 1,650m at the end of last season and, going by his recent trackwork and barrier trial, is primed to strike again early this term.
Trainer Tony Millard has held nothing back at the trials, instructing the riders of the majority of his gallopers to give his team a good blow-out before their first-up appearances.
That move paid dividends with Romancing Tamar and Oriental Courser at Sha Tin on Sunday, and punters will hope the early season charge can continue as Sleep Well steps up to Class Four.
Weichong Marwing's job will be made easier after Sleep Well was allotted barrier five in a race that promises to be run at a genuine tempo with Fat Dragon, Floral Picasso and Whatabob likely to lead the charge to the first turn.
Marwing should be able to lob into a lovely position one-off the rails just behind the speed as he did on July 7 when his effort to manoeuvre into that position from barrier 10 was rewarded handsomely.
The Peter Ho Leung-trained Mr Topaz also looks to be the beneficiary of the draw and Alex Lai Hoi-wing should be able to get him to relax nicely with cover from barrier three.
Mr Topaz sprinted well in an unsuitable race on opening day at Sha Tin and will be fitter for the blow-out.
Brett Prebble's mount, Happy Master, might get shuffled a little further back from barrier 10, but expect him to get motoring around the turn and give a bold sight in the straight.
The sprint feature in the middle leg looks another race to work around a central banker - in the form of peculiarly named At Moment In Time.
Danny Shum Chap-shing is having great success with his sprinters early this season and, from gate five, Howard Cheng Yu-tin should give this exciting five-year-old every hope in running.
At Moment In Time is a Happy Valley short-course specialist, having placed three times and won once from his six attempts over the minimum 1,000m journey.
He has been kept nice and fresh over the break with some short gallops to maintain his fitness and build his speed without pushing him over the top.
Stablemate Destiny's Child is likely to pressure Secret Of Winning, with widely drawn Plan B also a chance of vying for the early lead.
Of these leaders, Secret Of Winning makes the most appeal of going on with it after the five-year-old drew barrier two to ensure he gets the all-important inside run around the bend.
Trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong has given him enough work during the recess to ensure he will get the 1,000m with a trial over this course 11 days ago to complete this fellow's pre-season preparation.
The opening leg looks a tricky proposition, but Win A Dozen and Redoute's Fortune make strong appeal as candidates for punters looking for standout bankers in this 1,650m event.
Win A Dozen comes into this run after a strong trial down the 1,000m straight at Sha Tin on the course proper and his full compliment of seven gallops since the tracks re-opened should see him primed for a bold first-up showing.
Redoute's Fortune has the services of in-form jockey Zac Purton. From barrier five he should be able to relax midfield early before peeling out to make his move on the turn.
Oasis Davis, who makes his second start this term, and Sammy's Falcon, who resumes with Douglas Whyte in the irons, also make appeal and should be included in calculations.
