DAB slams Eastern Harbour Tunnel toll rise

The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong yesterday expressed anger over the proposed 40 per cent increase in tolls for the Eastern Harbour Tunnel. The party's deputy transport spokesman, Chan Hok-fung, said the operator, New Hong Kong Tunnel Company, posted a HK$400 million net profit last year, so there was no need to raise the tolls. He was worried that this would trigger a chain reaction of fare rises on other transport forms. He was also concerned traffic through the Cross-Harbour Tunnel would increase.
