Woman fights for life; ex-partner in fatal leap

A woman was last night fighting for her life, with police suspecting she was attacked by her former boyfriend, who later killed himself by jumping from a building.

Police believe the man, who had just broken up with the woman, followed her to a 28-year-old male friend's flat in On Kin House, On Tin Estate, Kwun Tong, at 12.45am.

They argued near the flat and the man is suspected of attacking the woman with a knife. Alerted by the woman's screams, her friend rushed from the flat and tried to stop the attacker. But he failed to do so and was stabbed in the left arm. The attacker fled the scene after severely injuring the woman.

A man was later found with severe injuries on the ground near Tin Lok House, Shun Tin Estate, also in Kwun Tong, at 1.10am. He was taken to United Christian Hospital, where he was declared dead at 1.38am. Officers confirmed he was suspected of carrying out the attack.

The woman was in critical condition in hospital last night, while the injured man was in stable condition.

Police said the attacker was angry at the woman, who had recently started an affair with her male friend - her superior at a McDonald's restaurant in Kowloon east - where all of them worked.

Police found a 20cm knife at Shun Tin Estate.

In another case, a man jumped to his death from a Sha Tin flat, where his wife was found unconscious with burning charcoal next to her. She was later confirmed dead in hospital.

The 59-year-old man lived with his 53-year-old wife in block 5 at Jubilee Garden. He was found lying unconscious on a platform near the block at about 2pm.

Police believe the woman was suffering from health problems.
