Kuala Lumpur's credentials as a conference city are being mapped out as about 2,500 surveyors mark May 2014 in their diaries for a six-day conference in the Malaysian capital.
Leaders of the International Federation of Surveyors, which represents professionals from more than 120 countries, chose Kuala Lumpur over the Turkish capital, Istanbul, in a tight vote.
The federation's 25th congress will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It will be the first time that the federation's four-yearly congress will be organised in Asia.
Mohammad Azmi Mohd Zin, president of Pejuta, Malaysia's official surveying and mapping association, praised the work done by government departments, the Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in winning the bid.
