Salesman fined HK$2,000 for violin theft

A salesman who stole a Taiwanese musician's antique violin on a ferry was fined HK$2,000 yesterday. Lau Chun-man, 47, pleaded guilty at Kowloon City Court. He took the violin - valued at HK$2.75 million - left behind by Lee Chia-hao on a Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai on August 10. Police traced Lau through CCTV footages and his Octopus card. The court found there was no evidence to show that Lau knew the violin was an antique.
