Double Champion trainer John Size was an unusual absentee on a buying trip overseas, but it didn't stop him cranking up things a notch with a double. The pair with Vitality Express (Douglas Whyte) and Appreciation (Keith Yeung Ming- lun) trebled Size's tally for the young season and punters found the two horses at either end of the pre-race scale. Appreciation threw off a modest first run back to keep his unbeaten second-up record intact at 41-1, while Vitality Express' win was greeted more warmly at well into odds-on. 'His run at Happy Valley last week toughened him up,' said Whyte. 'He got bumped and bullied a bit there, but I liked how he really applied himself to fight on into second place in the last bit, so I guess the writing was on the wall coming back to the bigger track. I thought I might have to make the pace myself, but I was even happier when there were a couple that wanted to go forward and I got the box seat.'
