Steve James, RTHK Radio 3 DJ
As told to Andrew Dembina
1. This Will Be Our Year - The Beautiful South
Of course, the governor version of this track is by The Zombies, it's just such a wistful, ultra-positive, romantic notion. And ever since this version came out it's been pretty much stuck in my head. Life is instantly OK for at least two minutes and 20 seconds.
2. It's Not War, Just the End of Love - Manic Street Preachers
It's taken me years to realise how much I like this band. I've played their stuff on the radio for years, but only recently realised I would allow them on my MP3 player of choice.
3. Heaven - Sol Azul
I've got into the habit of unwinding to whatever's playing on any of the 'groove lounge' [online] channels. I really like the no-rules combination of genres. Occasionally I make the effort to find out who I'm listening to.
4. That Man - Macy Gray
Actually, it's the whole album The Sellout, which I'm playing a lot. The critics haven't been kind to Macy Gray on this one. But it's good, clean old-school R&B. Lovely.
5. Dear Prudence - The Beatles
Multi-vitamins, a cup of tea and a Beatles song a day. It's just the way it is. And since the re-mastered collections came out I've been rediscovering the White Album. What a sprawling collection.
