The Court of Appeal has upheld that March 27, 2003, should be recognised as the date for the outbreak of Sars in a case where New World Development sued a number of insurers for losses of tens of millions of dollars at its hotels. New World wanted the outbreak date set at February 13 and had appealed against an earlier decision by the Court of First Instance, which supported the insurers' March 27 claim, as it was the day severe acute respiratory syndrome was added to the government's list of infectious diseases.
