In-play betting is best guide for Doyle fans

Brett Doyle has been well supported to claim today's Jockey Challenge at $4.50 and roll odds-on favourite Douglas Whyte, but smart players might hold their cash until the middle of the programme and take advantage of a more generous in-play quote.

Whyte will be hard to beat, as always, but Doyle finishes with a terrific run of winning chances and it wouldn't surprise to see him ride a treble from the last four races.

His early mounts are not as strong on paper and if Whyte hasn't put the challenge to sleep by race five, then a far more healthy offering about Doyle will be available leading into the back end of the card.

Doyle opened at $5.50 last night but was soon crunched back to $4.50 within 30 minutes of trading.

True Intelligence, Best Win, Mr Celerity and Sparkling Power are all top chances in the final four races and looks sure to fill Doyle's sail as he rattles home late with plenty of Challenge points.

Doyle boasts each-way chances on a number of his remaining six rides, but the majority of points look certain to come from the back end of his book.

He will have to earn his riding fees, however, after the barrier draw gods dolled out some horror starting positions on his final treble of Best Win (gate 14), Mr Celerity (10) and Sparkling Power (12).

For those who like a dabble at super-odds, Derek Leung Ka-chun has a full book of 10 rides and looks a far better chance than his overnight quote of $60 suggests.
