La Salle College wins HSBC title
La Salle College beat four other teams to win the HSBC Young Financial Planners Competition last Wednesday.
After a hard-fought contest, the school's winning foursome - Lam Kai-shing, Clement Lee Lok-him, Justin Fong Chun-kit and Oscar Wong - claimed the title for La Salle for the third time in four years.
True Light Girls' College came second and Queen's College, third.
The winners took home a HK$10,000 study fund. They will also take part in a two-day course at the bank called Experience HSBC.
Besides the three medalists, the finals also featured teams from HKMLC Queen Maud Secondary School and Pope Paul VI College.
In the final's first part, each team had to present their financial plan on an assigned case, including buying and selling stocks and assets. The case involved a 42-year-old man with a monthly income of HK$50,000, who wanted to save enough to buy a flat, send his son abroad and still have some money left for charity.
La Salle, Queen's and True Light made it into the second-round debate. Each team had to quiz the other two and answer questions from students in the audience.
More than 500 contestants enrol each year in the annual competition, which has been held for the fourth time since October 2006.
All local secondary schools can register. This year 91 schools entered and 10 made it into the semis.
