In-form driver Alex Lai Hoi-wing helped General Danroad navigate a highway to the winning post after the galloper overcame the outside gate to steam over the top of his opposition late. The Francis Lui Kin-wai-trained galloper was switched off at the rear by Lai before he sprinted powerfully. 'Alex is clever and all credit must go to him for the win,' Lui said. 'The horse needs cover, but does not always settle, so Alex rode a very good race. General Danroad has kept improving and I think there is still more to come from him.' Lai is still riding on a high after his first Group One success with Ultra Fantasy in the Sprinters Stakes in Japan - and was honoured with a special presentation yesterday along with trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fai. Yiu reported that his sprinter has pulled up nicely from the trip and is doing well in quarantine at Sha Tin.
