Taiwan courier service

Taiwan set up a courier facility and a 24-hour bonded warehouse at Chiang Kai Shek (CKS) Airport to help the development of the country into a transshipment hub.

The decision was made when Economics Minister P.K. Chiang and Transportation and Communications Minister Liu Chao-shiuan discussed the application of US-based Federal Express to set up its Asia-Pacific operations centre in Taipei.

Federal Express filed the application four years ago but the government was hesitant to approve the application because the surrounding area belonging to CKS airport is too small to house the courier facilities.

Federal Express later signed a pact with the Philippine government to set up the centre at Subic Bay.
