Family sues over tragedy
The parents of a youngster who witnessed the death of a whale trainer at Sea World in Florida is suing the company for his trauma, cable news channel msnbc reports on its website. Suzanne and Todd Connell were only about 30 metres away when the orca Tilikum drowned his trainer Dawn Brancheau. They said their son saw everything and was deeply upset.
Lawyers for Sea World say the company is not responsible for upsetting the youngster. They say they have no liability to a witness of the incident any more than someone who sees a car accident can sue the driver.
Tilikum killed his trainer on February 24 after a show with around 24 tourists watching. The park has already been fined for safety violations in connection with the tragedy.
