Pieces of the action

British loudspeaker brand KEF's eighth-generation Q900 7.1 home-theatre system (below) comes in packaged components that can be configured easily, so users have the flexibility of buying parts to suit their budget, room size and personal preferences. The system features 25mm tweeters with superlight, aluminium cones and advanced bass drivers for distortion-free sound. Gold-plated bi-wire terminals are used for signal transmission. The Q900 7.1 home-theatre package includes the Q900 floor-standers (HK$12,900 a pair), Q300 bookshelf speakers (HK$4,900 a pair), Q800ds dipole speakers (HK$5,400 a pair), a Q600c centre speaker (HK$4,400) and a Q400b subwoofer (HK$5,000).

Point and click

The 455-gram D3100 (left) is Nikon's lightest digital single-lens reflex camera and one of the more advanced entry-level snappers in its category. Nikon built a 14.2-megapixel sensor and the Expeed 2 image-processing engine for this device, so beginners can capture high-definition pictures even in dim lighting, or when shooting a fast-moving subject. A 'guide' mode helps users understand the camera's operations, from shooting to image playback and editing, to the application of settings. The D3100, with AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm lens kit, is priced at HK$5,480.

Streak smart

The Android operating system-based device weighs 220 grams and has a five-inch touch display, compared with the 680-gram iPad and its 9.7-inch screen. The Dell tablet features Wi-fi, Bluetooth and 3G connections, 16 gigabytes of storage capacity, a five-megapixel auto-focus camera with flash and battery life of up to nine hours per charge. Its Global Positioning System set-up provides Hong Kong, Macau and mainland maps, and navigation, text-to-voice and turn-by-turn-direction functions. Thousands of applications are available for download at the online Android Market. The Streak costs HK$5,499.
