Coupons given out for medical tests

The Hong Kong Medical Association is offering free laboratory tests to screen patients for such chronic diseases as hypertension, diabetes and chronic kidney disease at an early stage. Dr Ho Chung-ping, convenor of the coupon campaign, said there were effective treatments for those diseases, which may have no obvious symptoms in their early stages. If left untreated, they could lead to terminal kidney failure, heart attack, stroke or blindness.
