Expensive claim to a pizza

A personalised vehicle licence plate 'P1ZZA' was sold at auction for HK$30,000 yesterday while 'LATTE' fetched HK$5,000. Another plate 'PROM1SE' was sold for HK$20,000. 'FG' fetched the highest price of HK$460,000. Some 230 plates were sold, netting HK$2.54 million for the government. The funds would be used for initiatives to tackle poverty, a Transport Department spokesman said.

Arrests after officers assaulted

Two police officers were assaulted after receiving separate complaints about noise. A 16-year-old was arrested after he assaulted a policeman, 37, at a basketball court near Mei Wo House on Wo Che Estate in Sha Tin. The officer, who suffered injuries to his face and wrist, was treated at Prince of Wales Hospital. In the second incident, a 40-year-old was arrested after he pushed an officer to the ground at Tsing Yi MTR station.

Four injured in traffic accidents

Two men and a woman, aged 19 to 23, suffered minor injuries when their car hit barriers on Tsuen Kam Road near Kwong Pan Tin village. They were sent to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment. In another incident, a 71-year-old was injured in an accident involving two cars and a truck on the Tuen Mun Highway near Yan Oi Tong. Police said one of the cars had slowed down and the other two vehicles travelling behind failed to stop in time.

Hunt for pair over stabbing

Police were looking for two men who assaulted a 37-year-old man with a steak knife outside a shopping mall on Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate. The pair fled in a white car. The victim was taken to United Christian Hospital with a leg wound. A 15cm blade was found at the scene. In a separate incident, a 54-year-old man was stabbed in the arms and back at a restaurant on the Sam Shing Estate in Tuen Mun.

Two hurt in gang bottle attack

Seven to eight men, aged 18 to 25, were being sought after they attacked a 16-year-old and a 22-year-old with a bottle outside East Tsim Sha Tsui station in Hanoi Road. They fled in a car and a taxi. The victims were treated for facial injuries at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
