Rebels try to unseat party leadership
A power struggle within the League of Social Democrats is heating up with rebels trying to unseat the leadership, which has been in office for 10 months.
The clash involves the leadership team of chairman Andrew To Kwan-hang and a group led by Edward Yum Liang-hsien. Yum, who quit the party's executive committee last week in protest at what he called the leadership's 'dictatorship', said yesterday that airing dirty laundry about the infighting would not affect the party's image among voters. 'Is the view of people more important to our party? If yes, then why are the people feeling like we are almost under a dictatorship?' Yum said, attacking a series of recent decisions made by the leadership.
To yesterday called on members to settle their disputes at a party general meeting on November 7, and said he would make a detailed response to allegations directed at him.
