Keith Quinn has been commentating on rugby since 1971. He's commentated at 10 Commonwealth Games, including the latest one in New Delhi, all six Rugby World Cups and eight Olympic Games, starting in Munich 1972. At the Hong Kong Sevens, he has commentated 21 times.
For the 2010 fixture, rather than commentating, Quinn and wife Anne are running a tour. 'I suppose you could say we are working our passage. Some say I do the talking, Anne does the organising, and that it's a bit like running a Kiwi BBQ, with similar demarcations of labour,' he says, tongue in cheek.
This is only the start of the tour as the Quinns will continue on to Great Britain and Ireland. 'We have one busload here in Hong Kong of 42 All Blacks fans. In the UK ... there'll be two busloads.'
His eagle eye will come into play this week as he introduces the city he knows like the back of his hand. 'I like the 'bigness' of Hong Kong. It's a small place, but everything is on a grand scale. I like the friendly people and I always enjoy Delaney's bar, the Star Ferry, bantering with the taxi drivers and, of course, the excitement of the rugby action.'
