Union wants allowance residency rule scrapped

The Federation of Trade Unions says regulations that prevent senior citizens living outside Hong Kong from receiving the old age allowance should be abolished. The call came as an 82-year-old man returned from Zhongshan yesterday after moving there more than 10 years ago and is now not eligible for the allowance. The number of days a recipient must live in the city to qualify for the allowance has been cut to 60 from 90. The federation says such a rule is unreasonable and should be abolished.
