Fast-food chain Cafe de Coral has given up on the idea that staff should no longer have paid meal times. It reconsidered its actions after trade unions asked students to help them in their fight.

After Cafe de Coral announced it would increase its staff's pay to the minimum wage, it also said that in view of the increases they would have to give up their paid lunch time. Staff worked out that with the increases and without the lunch times, they would be worse off.

Not all fast-food chains give their staff a paid lunch break. The unions had asked school and university students to boycott the chain and not renew campus catering contracts once they had expired.
