Dettori can add to Godolphin's century of Group One wins in HK
Frankie Dettori rode Group One winners on both sides of the Atlantic on Sunday, grabbing the Breeders' Cup Turf in Kentucky, then success in Europe's final elite event for the year which took him to a landmark 100 Group One wins for Godolphin.
Dettori won his first Group One in the all blue of Godolphin on 1994 Epsom Oaks winner Balanchine, and made his tally a remarkable triple figures when Rio De La Plata won the Premio Roma GBI Racing (2,400m) in Italy.
The Italian-born rider (pictured) had no time to spare, getting on a flight soon after winning the Turf aboard Dangerous Midge - trained by Brian Meehan who also prepared Dettori's 2006 winner of the same race - and arriving in time to perform a second star jump in Rome.
He may get his chance to add to that Group One total at Sha Tin next month, with Godolphin's 2009 St Leger winner, Mastery, already pencilled in for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase (2,400m).
A long odds-on favourite for the 2,400m Floodlit Stakes on the all-weather at Nottingham over the weekend, Mastery only took half the result when he dead-heated with Dansili Dancer at his second race since March, but Godolphin spokeswoman Diana Cooper confirmed afterwards that a trip to Hong Kong will be next.
'He would have been rusty still and looked beaten when he was headed, but Ted [Duncan] gave him a lovely ride. He's a wonderful character and that sets him up perfectly for Hong Kong,' she told Britain's Racing Post.
Closer to home, Hong Kong junior Keith Yeung Ming-lun managed only one winner at Macau's Taipa racecourse on Sunday, but that was enough to win him the two-race Macau Apprentice Jockeys' Invitation.
Yeung led throughout to win the second leg on Forever Friendship after being only 11th in the first leg, but the total points got him over the line when the first-leg winner, Malaysian rider Kamal Yazid, managed only 13th in the second.
