Rare collections enjoy revival

The Modern Wristwatches Auction offers a unique and rare collection of fine timepieces that will appeal to beginner collectors and connoisseurs. Highlights include Lot 1055 Vacheron Constantin Malte, a PT950 platinum perpetual calendar wrist watch, manual wind with chronograph and moon phase display (estimate: HK$460,000 to HK$540,000), and a Vacheron Constantin PT950 platinum perpetual calendar with automatic movement, elegant guilloche dial and retrograde date (Lot 1109, estimate: HK$460,000 to HK$540,000).

To meet the seemingly insatiable demand from Patek Philippe collectors, a PT950 platinum chronograph watch, reference 5070 (estimate: HK$760,000 to HK$1 million) goes under the hammer. The auction also offers rare limited-edition Officine Panerai wrist watches and diamond watches, and antique pocket watches that are enjoying a renaissance in watch collecting.

Bonhams will also present 210 lots of rare jewellery pieces, including three exquisite, yellow diamond pieces that will generate enormous interest among collectors: Lot 798, a pair of 3.73 and 4.01-carat princess cut, fancy, vivid yellow diamond earrings (estimate: HK$3.4 million to HK$4.4 million), Lot 704, a 16.37-carat oval-shaped, fancy, intense yellow diamond ring, VVS1 clarity (estimate: HK$3.8 million to HK$4.8 million), and Lot 746, a 6.07-carat radiant-cut, fancy, vivid yellow diamond ring VS1, clarity (estimate: HK$1.3 million to HK$1.8 million).

The Kashmir sapphire is in high demand and will be featured in the coming sale, as will natural and conch pearls, and exquisite examples of the jadeite hoop.

Rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants and necklaces will also feature.
