Consumer outcry mystifies star

Taiwanese-American singer Wang Leehom, a staunch advocate of eco-conscious living, is mystified by the hullabaloo over his stance on shunning lavish consumption, including his refusal to buy a sports car

'In a recent interview, I said I wouldn't buy these luxurious items and people were surprised. I don't understand why it created such a big fuss,' he said. The 34-year-old (right) bought a second-hand vehicle instead because he felt it was more environmentally friendly.

'Many people only see the material and superficial side of the entertainment industry. I hope people understand that's just part of the performance,' he said. 'Success doesn't come from [accumulating] material; it's manifested in how influential you are and how you can affect people positively.'

Wang was in Hong Kong to attend a conservation-themed event organised by a fashion brand.

The singer, who has not performed here for some time, said he would be bringing his tour, Music Man, to the city.

'I won't forget Hong Kong. That's impossible. The Music Man tour has been running for two years but there're still many places that we haven't been to yet. Hong Kong is one of them.

'But I'm thinking about whether I should stop to update the show. It's kind of a dilemma.'
