Gone are the breezy bright shades of summer - embrace darker, deeper tones this autumn. Metallic, bronze, blue and smoky purple are all hot right now.

Majolica Majorca Speedy & Glossy (HK$38/4.5ml)

This may be glossy, but the teeny brush and watery consistency make it far from speedy - you'll need at least four coats. On the plus side, the pocket-sized bottle means you can always have it on you.

Dior Vernis Haute Couleur Extreme Wear Nail Lacquer (HK$165/10ml)

Solid enough colour to only require one coat - add a top coat to make it last longer. Goes on smoothly and lacks that awful chemical smell. Give yourself plenty of time, as it takes a while to dry.

Skin Food Nail Vita (HK$30/13ml)

Gorgeous, very feminine colours without being over-the-top. It glides on nicely and has a lovely, glamorous finish. The perfect party polish.

NARS Nail Polish (HK$160/15ml)

Thick and opaque, this polish is easy to apply and long-lasting. Since taupe is the new black, new shade Bad Influence is a must.

Nicole by OPI Nail Lacquer (HK$75/15ml)

The collection has a range of gorgeous colours to choose from. But the polish is rather sheer and watery, requiring three or four coats to get the real colour.
