Rise in catering sector accidents
The Labour Department processed more than 8,000 cases of employee compensation because of work accidents in the catering industry last year, accounting for 200,000 lost working days. Commissioner for Labour Cherry Tse Ling Kit-ching said yesterday the industry had reported the most work accidents since 2000, despite a drop from one in 10 workers injured in 1999 to one in 28 last year.
Prostitute raped and robbed
A 17-year-old youth was arrested after allegedly raping and robbing a prostitute in a one-woman brothel in Hung Hom. The teenager fled after the attack early on Saturday morning but left his mobile phone behind. He was arrested in Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok yesterday.
Minibus driver dies
A 61-year-old red-top minibus driver was declared dead in Queen Elizabeth hospital last night after falling unconscious at the wheel in Kowloon City. He pulled the minibus to the side of Nga Tsin Wai Road near Fuk Lo Tsun Road and told his passengers he was feeling ill before collapsing.
Mainlander held after break-in
A 28-year-old mainlander was arrested for robbery in Sheung Shui after breaking into an empty shop in Lung Shum Road, making a hole in a wall and entering an adjacent money exchange shop, taking HK$10,000 in cash. An alarm was triggered when he tried to break open a safe.
Hotel pest injures woman officer
A 43-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a female police officer who suffered an arm injury when she was pushed to the ground in the car park of the City Garden Hotel in North Point. She went there after a complaint that the man was disturbing hotel customers.
Teens arrested over park assault
Three teenagers were arrested after they claimed to be triad members and assaulted a 29-year-old in a park in Sai Ching Street, Yuen Long.
Tempers flare in row over bus seat
Two men, 41 and 52, were arrested for fighting after getting into an argument over a seat on a bus in Nathan Road.
