The number of chickenpox cases last month hit a three-year high with 958 recorded, taking the total so far this year to 8,177. The figures for the same month last year and in 2008 were 319 and 657 respectively. The number of cases for this year, up until the end of last month, have already surpassed that for the whole of last year (6,777), and are set to break 2008's record of 8,927.
