The vibe: Tsim Sha Tsui's Ashley Road is a mash-up of all kinds of bars and restaurants, from cheerful wine bars mimicking Lockhart Road to Jimmy's Kitchen, a restaurant with old-world charm and a touch of decadence rarely seen in the district. Ned Kelly's, in keeping with the street, carves its own niche. The themed pub celebrates the life of notorious Australian bushranger Ned Kelly, who in 1880 was hanged for the murder of three policemen. Wooden tables, long benches and cosy booths mean the bar is as far from a sleek lounge as can be: pictures and news clippings adorn the wooden walls and a live jazz band performs a tongue-in-cheek Dixie jazz nightly, inspiring yet more memories of days gone by.

The drinks: Aussies missing home may want to avoid wasting time and move straight on to the Victoria Bitter (HK$35/52), but there is plenty to choose from: as well as a decent selection of beers and wines, Ned Kelly's has an impressive cocktail list. A Singapore Sling (HK$59/87) goes down nicely with the Dixie jazz. Should the band discover a birthday celebration, however, be prepared for a North Sea Oil shooter (HK$30). The birthday boy or girl will be required to down the slick black shot to raucous applause.
