Ferraris eyes bigger things for Liberator

Two promising youngsters, the David Ferraris-trained Liberator and Vincent Ho Chak-yiu, combined on their way to bigger things with an impressive performance.

Ho rated the dominant last-start winner on the speed before driving him away for a comfortable milestone win, with the apprentice now dropping to a seven-pound claim after his 10th win in Hong Kong.

Liberator, a HK$5 million International Sale Graduate handpicked by Ferraris for his trainer syndicate, is also destined for bigger things and connections are now eyeing the Hong Kong Derby with the Encosta De Lago gelding.

'He can have a little break now, the Derby next year is the long-term plan and we've just got to make sure we look after him until then,' Ferraris said. 'Vincent rode him exactly to instruction today and had the horse travelling nicely throughout, so it was a good result all round.

'The people involved in my syndicate are great people to train for and I've always had a good opinion of this horse, so hopefully we will have a lot of fun with him yet.'

Liberator has matured into a lovely stamp of a horse and followed up his 5 3/4 length thumping of Redoute Star over 1,800m at his prior start with a 2 1/2 length romp over Zezao and Surrounded dropping back to the mile.
