Fears ease over bird flu case

The flu pandemic response level was lowered from 'serious' to 'alert' yesterday, after doctors deemed that a bird flu case involving a 59-year-old woman from Tuen Mun was imported and sporadic. Secretary for Food and Health Dr York Chow Yat-ngok (pictured) said tests confirmed that those who came in close contact with the woman did not catch the disease, nor was the H5N1 flu virus found in live birds and chickens in the city. The woman was the city's first bird flu patient in seven years.
