Perhaps it is the excitement of the international races, or perhaps it is the festive mood of the Christmas season, but the Jockey Challenge oddsmakers are giving away free cash at Sha Tin today - all punters have to do is get a ticket with the name Douglas Whyte on it.

Beadman ($2.60) is slightly shading Prebble ($2.70) for favouritism, and while both have undeniable claims, their reliance on winning the big events could prove costly.

Whyte ($4.80) is capable of winning the big races and has some terrific chances in the Group Ones, but his supporting card is second-to-none and he can get off to a flyer with debutant Paganini's Soul in the first.

Paganini's Soul raced four times in Melbourne for three wins and a second and arrives in the John Size yard on a rating of 80 - a mark that places him in a winnable race first-up.

Whyte was grinning almost as widely as trainer Sean Woods when Vase hopeful King Dancer drew gate four on Thursday, and was the quickest draw in the west when whipping out his mobile phone for the replacement ride on Green Birdie in the Sprint.

Last-start winner Lucky Bravo is a chance for Whyte, and Sight Winner gets his day at a major victory in a Hong Kong Mile devoid of early pace.

With Super Satin, Always Something and Sichuan Success to finish the day, Whyte will prove very hard to hold out even if the favourites manage to gain a slight advantage when in-play betting stops.
