'There is plenty more to come from Sichuan Success'
Winning doubles to trainers John Size and John Moore were the highlight of the under-card, but Douglas Whyte believes he might have unearthed a potential title-belt contender after winning the last on Sichuan Success.
Whyte combined with Size to rack up a double with Lucky Bravo and Sichuan Success, and the champion jockey was eager to talk up the latter, a winner of four races from his seven starts.
'Although I was on a lot of good horses today, Sichuan Success undoubtedly gave me the feel of the day,' Whyte said. 'The way he travelled throughout the race was very exciting and there is plenty more to come from this fellow.'
Size was also visibly pleased by the performance and will now set about targeting the top four-year-old races with his Fastnet Rock gelding.
'Sichuan Success could have led the race, but he settled so well he just went to sleep and Douglas actually had to ask him to get going again,' Size said. 'The merit of the win was that he did have to make a longish run and he looks a nice developing horse.'
The number one combination scored earlier in the day with the lightly raced Lucky Bravo, who scooted clear of his Class Three rivals for a 1?length win over Plentiful to make it two wins on the trot.
'Lucky Bravo was a bit more impressive today because he didn't have to do as much work as he did the other day,' Size said. 'The pace wasn't as strong and that meant he was a little bit keen, but he didn't have things as tough as last start and he capitalised on that in the straight.'
David Ferraris led in the opener with Affluence Of Rain, and the trainer is confident the horse can progress further through the grades as he learns his craft.
'Affluence Of Rain is a very nice horse, but just hasn't learnt to race yet, and is still fighting the rider,' Ferraris said. 'He's certainly a nice type in the making, but I'll keep him to the sprint trips until he learns to drop his head.'
