MGMT

In 2008, the world couldn't get enough of MGMT. They were the new indie darlings and soon found themselves with a clutch of crossover hits, such as the epic Kids (with that incessantly sticky refrain 'Control yourself ...') and Electric Feel. The Brooklyn duo - Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden - took their psychedelically synthy grooves onto David Letterman's Late Show (wearing capes) and big festival stages worldwide.

Their debut album, Oracular Spectacular, reached No12 on the British pop chart and made countless top-10 lists in music magazines and blogs. It was fresh, trippy and, for an indie band, eminently poppy. With three more members added to the line-up, MGMT this year released the more artsy, exploratory - and definitely less catchy - Congratulations, which has so far failed to generate the buzz or accolades of its predecessor.

When MGMT play Hitec on March 30, it's likely to be an up-and-down affair. If you only liked Kids, don't expect to be enthralled for the whole set. Go with an open mind, however, and it might just be blown. www.hkticketing.com
