Beautiful end to a wonderful year

Bespectacled wonderwoman Ng On-yee doesn't really know what she will do with all the money she won during the most memorable four weeks of her life.

And with her second straight International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) world amateur six-ball title in the bag - she easily retained her title in Damascus, Syria, this week - she completed a magical year she won't easily forget.

Ng added HK$24,000 to the HK$360,000 she had already pocketed from winning a team gold and a singles bronze at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last month. 'I really don't know what I will do with all the money I have won. I haven't decided. I will buy something small and inexpensive for Christmas as a way of celebrating my titles,' said the 20-year-old, who returned from her success in Damascus on Friday.

Ng knows almost HK$400,000 in prize money is a huge sum, but she said enjoying the game was the most important thing.

'I was so happy with my performance in Syria I had to give myself a 10 out of 10. I was really enjoying playing the game in Syria. Getting into the final and playing my teammate [she beat Hong Kong's Jaique Ip Wan-in 5-0 in the final] was really a dream for me ... and so close to the Asian Games. It has been a really good four or five weeks and something I will cherish,' she said.

'Right now, I am going to celebrate with my family because I didn't really have much time to celebrate with them after our success in Guangzhou. I might go on holiday, too. I'm really happy with how things went. I'm particularly happy with how I managed to handle the pressure in Syria. It was really a dream to play Jaique in the final, too. Enjoying the game was the more important thing for me, more than winning,' she said.

With 2010 ending, Ng has set no major targets for 2011 but will probably compete in four or five tournaments in Britain. 'There are no major competitions for me in 2011.The Asian Games was my major target this year. I just hope to play well and continue improving.'
